About the Image(s)
Here is another hibiscus flower with buds in bloom. I still used by black box as the backdrop. I'm working on getting some soft box lighting. So that my light doesn't come from the top and burn out the image.
This was taken with my Nikon D850. The ISO was set at 640 with exposures at 1/50 and f/8.

Lovely pink buds. Nice and sharp. Maybe you could blur the background a little bit, especially the big leaf at the bottom.   Posted: 10/11/2024 02:51:00

Thank you Ruth. Sometimes we don't see what we don't see.   Posted: 10/15/2024 17:20:44

Oh, how moody! Of course your depth of color is very good. But what strikes me the most is the pose. Those dark leaves feel like a landing pad, and the flowers have blasted off. The sharpness contributes to making the viewer take a closer look at those pink beauties. And the length of the larger bud balances the green below. I might suggest cloning our that one horitonzal branch at the very bottom.   Posted: 10/15/2024 15:50:31

Hi Lori,
Yes, I also am drawn to the lovely depth of color and textures that are revealed for the flower buds and the sense of dramatic lighting. The combo of deep pinks and green is very appealing to me. I'm curious about wanting to inspect the upper bloom and this holds my attention.

What an interesting perspective. We usually see various views the Hibiscus in full bloom. I like what you have done with the buds. The image is very sharp, bring out the texture in the buds and the stem. Nice DOF, emphasizing that texture. Your use of the black background is very effective. The way you have deemphasized the leaves interesting. Have you thought of increasing the ISO allowing for a smaller aperture and hence greater DOF. Bring the texture of leaves in the foreground into play. Just a suggestion.   Posted: 10/21/2024 02:28:45

Thank James for you comments. I will try increasing the ISO next time. I was close to blowing out the whites.   Posted: 10/21/2024 15:19:36

Very interesting composition for a hibiscus! Living in Florida, I've seen a variety of images of these flowers, but never this. Nicely done. I love the contrast of colors, but the bigger bud, to me, is just a tad too bright, especially toward the back where it meets the green. I like your choice of DOF and wouldn't change it, but that's my style. I also wouldn't remove the bottom, right leaf as it brings balance to what would be otherwise right heavy from the bud above.   Posted: 10/21/2024 14:11:54
