Climactic moment by Barbara E Miller, HonPSA, FPSA, MPSA, EFIAP

July 2021 - Climactic moment

About the Image(s)

In Africa sometime ago I managed to capture this moment. I realise that the light coming from the RH side is too bright but couldn't darken it effectively. I used Topaz to create a small vignette and added a stroke. I don't think much explanation of what prompted me to take it is necessary!

Barbara, this is a WOW; You have captured the expression on these animals at the right moment. the only thing I might add is a border.   Posted: 07/03/2021 17:19:10

I did add a stroke for a border Nick, it just didn't come out on all four sides.   Posted: 07/03/2021 17:36:29

Without question a WOW moment! It pays to have the camera ready to go because second chances don't happen very often.   Posted: 07/04/2021 15:52:27

Wow! I hope you took this with a long lens! Great to capture the moment. Not a lot of time to worry about composition, etc. Just get the photo and get outa of there.

This really captures the harshness of life in the African savanna. Regards your comment about the background and foreground grasses, I wonder if removing any sharpening there, or adding a touch of blur might keep us focussed on the lions.   Posted: 07/04/2021 23:07:57

A great moment, well observed. I'm not seeing your comment about the background and foreground grasses that Mark mentioned. My only observation would be that I feel a slight green-ish cast over the whole image - including the animals - and I wonder if that could have been toned out a little.   Posted: 07/05/2021 10:18:09

First class capture ............As they say 'timing is everything' and you got the precise moment   Posted: 07/10/2021 14:32:17

I think the subject and composition are excellent, however I agree with Candia's comment about the cast. I have tried to remove it but not to my satisfaction.   Posted: 07/13/2021 17:38:29

Wow! Great shot, Barbara! This is a powerful visual storytelling image! No explanation is necessary, and the impact outweighs all technical matters.   Posted: 07/27/2021 21:02:21
