About the Image(s)

This was taken a little over a month ago of a mockingbird bringing home an afternoon meal for her three youngsters. I made some basic adjustments in LR using Topaz and Viveza to darken the BG.

Camera: Nikon D500
Lens: Tameron 18-400 set to 400mm
Exposure: 1/800 @ f11 ISO 900

Beautiful clarity to this image, particularly in the eye. The bird is really well captured. The greens are a little over-saturated for my taste and the cut end of the dead branch is too bright to be natural. It is a shame that the tail is clipped but catching the moment is the most important thing and you have certainly achieved that.   Posted: 06/08/2021 15:35:03

A very sharp image, the eyes sparkle , which bring you to the birds face. I agree with Candia, that the cut off branch is way to bright. When you look at your image your eye goes to the bird and shifts over to the branch. If you darken the branch , you eye would stay on the bird.   Posted: 06/09/2021 14:50:38

Richard, You have captured a very nice nature shot even though the scene is very busy. The picture is sharp and you have captured the bird's eye very nicely. The bird's bluish gray color stands out against the light tan background. I don't mind the tail being clipped.   Posted: 06/11/2021 16:31:46

Too bad the tail was chopped off, but as others have noted it really doesn't take away all that much from this marvellous capture and your adjustments to it. The texture in the bird's coat is excellent.
Well done Rich.   Posted: 06/13/2021 13:55:18

Thanks everyone for your comments; I believe I need to invest in some monitor calibration equipment. Candia is right the green is over-saturated and the end of the dead branch is too bright. I will review the other images that I took to see if I have one with the complete tail.   Posted: 06/20/2021 15:37:52

I agree with previous comments, I like the sharpness of the bird particularly its eye. I also like the food in its mouth. The negatives can be easily sorted except for the birds tail.   Posted: 06/21/2021 04:09:06

Richard, although I agree that the end of the dead branch is a bit too bright, I really like the fact that it nearly duplicates the color and shape of the mockingbird's eye. I also like the "busy" grass that she is standing in. At first glance, the shape and color of the grass made me think of worms... a feast for her little ones.

Nicely done.
