About the Image(s)

Happy Camper was created at Gatorland in Orlando a few years ago. It was alligator’s matting season. There was a lot of confrontation of the males for the females and territory. The males were doing the characteristic sound by blowing their throat and the frontal 1/3 of the body outside of the water.
The image was created with the Nikon D4 with the Nikkor zoom lens 80-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 400 mm and with these settings: ISO 800, f/8 and 1/500 sec. The image was PP in ACR, some of the very bright areas (reflections of light in the murky water) were subdued, the matting alligators were brightened slightly, and the image was cropped.

A good sharp natural history shot, Isaac. You have caught them coming towards the camera which is good. These things look pretty large and fierce but the fact that you used the 400mm end of the zoom shows you were at a good safe distance and presumably you were behind a fence.   Posted: 05/03/2022 06:48:51

Love his smile of anticipation Isaac. The position of your subjects is perfect and displays a strong Nature story. When I want an image to show that I am at eye level with my subject I will crop the background then leave more foreground. That change doesn't work, just a suggestion.   Posted: 05/07/2022 07:32:46

To my eye this image is extremely sharp, pick up all the detail on both gators. The color balance appears to me to be correct. Together with the two originals the image tell an interesting story.   Posted: 05/08/2022 17:47:40
