September 2021 - A New Day

About the Image(s)

I posted a picture of the cruise liner last month in very early morning light this image was taken while I was waiting for her to arrive as the sun just started to creep over the horizon the lighting was unforgettable and no image could do it just along with the the stillness and silence broken only be the sound of the sea birds mother nature at her best

How i did it
Camera Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon lens EF24-105mm f4.5 1/250s ISO 100 focal length 105mm RAW file opened and adjusted in photoshop sharpened using a high pass filter, lighting adjusted slightly using levels and a curves layer but very little done to it.

A very nice image of the lighthouse. My only suggestion would be to crop out some of the water in front of the light house, also remove the small bird, at the end of the cloud on the right side. At the base of the lighthouse , side going to the right, there is something on the Horizon, I also would remove it.   Posted: 09/08/2021 14:50:59

Hi Stuart
Thank you so much for taking the time to look and comment on my image your sharp eye noted the bird which I did not, sometimes we get to close to our work to notice the obvious,I did consider cropping up from the bottom but decided to keep the full reflection but I will certainly look at cropping and see how I feel. The object on the right on the horizon is a large container ship about an hour out from the Port of Liverpool and thought it just broke the horizon line but again I will look at removing that.
Again many thanks for your advice   Posted: 09/08/2021 15:22:07

Ian, I think that Stuart has provided some excellent advice. To my eye the balance that this brings top to bottom - that is the water in the foreground is now about the same size as the clear sky in the background - improves the image.

I feel that the colors of the water and sky work well together and the brightness of the Lighthouse is enough to draw and hold the viewer's eye on the lighthouse as a whole and not just on that part of it. The shutter speed chosen yields enough detail to match the mid-ground cloud detail.   Posted: 09/10/2021 11:19:12

Ian, thanks for showing another image from your early morning excursion to this location. The light is indeed magical. I am very happy with the framing as I enjoy the reflection as much as the lighthouse so my preference is not to crop the bottom of the image. I had not noticed the bird, so well done Stuart for spotting that, and I agree with him that you might clone it out. I think I would also clone out, or darken, that light coloured rock about a quarter of the way up at the left hand edge. I think the ship on the horizon is fine though. I think the ship complements the lighthouse. After all, if you didn't have ships, you wouldn't need lighthouses!   Posted: 09/14/2021 05:49:49

Ian, great golden hour light. I like the full length of the reflection, agree with cloning out the bird and the bright little rock, agree with the presence of the cargo ship that justifies the lighthouses. I believe this is the same lighthouse you presented in March 2021 at an earlier hour and on a low tide. It is sharp, and the composition is simple but great.   Posted: 09/15/2021 10:13:11

Hi Isaac
Thanks as always for your kind words it is indeed the same Lighthouse although fully vaccinated I am still reluctant to venture to far and as this beautiful structure is only 5 minutes stroll from my apartment and is surrounded be ever changing coastal sky and light its my go to at the moment and brings a lot of peace and energy to my life.   Posted: 09/15/2021 13:43:48
