About the Image(s)

Jack and Cheri Twiggs, Betty Sue and I started our Western adventure, that encompassed Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. The first major stop was Monument Valley, located in Arizona. Lynn Thompson, FPSA. MPSA, PSA’s former Treasurer, introduced me to Tom Phillips who was a Native American guide that uncovered many of the treasures of Monument Vally. Lynn and I used his services on several occasions starting about 2002. Unfortunately, Tom passed away in 2012. However Lynn learned that his two sons took over the family business. Son, Carl treated us to fabulous stories about family and Native culture and we were guided to some very special places that produced more interesting knowledge concerning Tom, his children and Forefathers Culture. His son Carl was equally versed as his Dad, in provided us with a very special adventure. The weather cooperated and provided beautiful clouds and colorful sky’s that made for capturing many fine images. With Carl’s help and my walking sticks, this 85-year-old photog was able to make the clime to Teardrop Arch. Tools for the day, Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8 PRO lens coupled with my OM1 Mark 11body, tripod mounted, using a manual release and my stool for stability. Settings, Auto ISO, f 11 at 1/30th of a second. My post in Bridge consisted of clicking on auto in my workflow, use sliders when needed then click on Select, Filter, Camera raw filter to darken the subject then get to mask again to lighten the rock that forms Teardrop Arch to bring out definition in the rock. Lastly, a stroke was added to contain the image.
