Tanzania Butcher Shop by Dr Isaac Vaisman, APSA, PPSA

October 2024 - Tanzania Butcher Shop

About the Image(s)

Last year we concluded our African Photographic Safari in Arusha - Tanzania. Our guide took us to the local market. When we reached the butcher stores, I walked into one of them when I saw these two men working on a large section and took several images, when they realized what was I doing they brought their arms forward covering most of their faces and asking me to stop, which I did. I said thank you and walked away. As you can see, they were using zero refrigeration and sanitary protection except for the white coats.
The image was created with the Nikon Z8 and the Nikkor zoom lens 24-200 mm f/4-6.3 @ 38mm and these settings: ISO 10000 (Auto setting), f/8 and 1/160 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom including the new DeNoise feature, and cropped.

Isaac, I am not surprised at your description of what happened. It very much looks like they are not happy with you. I have often said, after traveling the world for Kodak, that we do not live in the "real world." Even though we do not see things like this in our every day lives, these things happen in many places every day around the world.   Posted: 10/04/2024 12:02:39

Nice journalistic photo. I am not a meat eater so I didn't study it well, but their expressions are priceless.

Hi Isaac
A great piece of photojournalism as Gary has alluded to capturing the real world, this could have turned nasty so I am glad you left before there were any issues but you got your shot well done.   Posted: 10/11/2024 21:20:58

Great bit of journalism, Isaac I'm glad you got out before the man on the left raised his BIG knife! The clarity is great when you consider the ISO of 10,000. It must have been dark to need that ISO with a fairly normal exposure of 1/160 at f/8.   Posted: 10/14/2024 16:53:16

Yes Guy, it was very dark inside with only a couple of incandescent bulbs.   Posted: 10/24/2024 13:53:42

Isaac, you have always had the nose for good P.J. images. The image is sharp, offering good color and depth of field. Imagine trying to make this image with cameras manufactured in the 90's. A question might have been 10,000 what.   Posted: 10/20/2024 13:27:27

Erik, the Denoise AI incorporated into LightRoom and ACR does an excellent job.   Posted: 10/24/2024 13:55:14

An excellent PJ image. It's well exposed and composed. I would be fearful of the guy with the big knife   Posted: 10/29/2024 14:58:22
