About the Image(s)

How I Did It:
This was taken at the same location as Mussenden Temple, last month's image, on the north coast of Northern Ireland at Downhill Demesne. It is looking over the wall and down to these houses situated by the beach. The temple building is out of shot on my left. The houses are situated against the cliff and are protected from falling stones etc by large nets suspended from the clifftop. Being north facing, they get no midday sun and are open to northerly gales, but they look nice for a photograph! Camera was my Lumix G9 with the Leica 50-200 lens at 73 mm. Exposure was 1/1600 at f/8 with ISO 640. Back home I took it into ON1 RAW and adjusted the highlights and shadows a little. Then I applied NoNoise AI in ON1 and cropped some off the top and some off the RHS to balance the composition. The black container near the rail line was a very distracting bright blue so I changed that to black. I also brightened the houses and increased the overall contrast. ON1 also has a handy Sunshine Filter which just perks up the scene so I applied that too. I darkened the sky a little, but just enough to bring out the clouds without making them too dark

Guy, I love seeing these pictures of the English and Irish countrysides and coastal areas. I am getting an education. It must be that Ireland is one area geologically stable enough to live in a location like this and never fear hurricane, tsunami or earthquake. On the other hand, where do they have to go for daily groceries??? Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 10/04/2024 11:59:12

Gary, I guess you just take the train to the next town or drive up the hill.....   Posted: 10/09/2024 15:22:18

Guy, impressive location, location, location. Obviously it is a very low tide. Lovely place to visit. Great PP results.   Posted: 10/09/2024 15:25:08

Lovely peaceful setting. I enjoy seeing the scale of the area. I really like the Sunshine filter in ON1 also. I would like to see a black and white version with the clouds having a bit more drama.   Posted: 10/11/2024 10:07:57

Hi Vella, I tried a mono with this image and made the clouds quite dramatic but I didn't like the effect. It split the image into two subjects - the houses at bottom left and dramatic sky top right. There were two focal points to grab your attention and it just did not work. I did a mono of a different shot without the sky and that worked fine.   Posted: 10/14/2024 16:41:24

Hi Guy
I immediately recognised the location from the photo you posted last month your main subject was the temple and you could just see the town tucked into the bottom of the cliffs on the cove, which proves if you visit somewhere scout out all the possibilities of the location.
A beautiful S curve leading the eye all the way through the picture as with all your pictures beautifully composed, you did a wonderful job with the container it blends in so well.
Is there more to come from this beautiful location?

I've got another up my sleeve, but I still need to work on it. Just been away for two weeks and still trying to catch up with the emails, 99% of which are junk or spam. The system sorts most of them correctly but you still have to check.   Posted: 10/15/2024 12:50:28

Another serene scape Guy, the R.R. tracks create a credible leading line and the soft colors promote this delegate scape.   Posted: 10/21/2024 00:25:37

Once again you have proven that great pictures are made with some great post work. Your enhancement has made the best of what could have been a mediocre scene. Well done composition.   Posted: 10/29/2024 15:02:57
