About the Image(s)

I took this photo while hiking near Crested Butte, Colorado in early October. The fall colors were gorgeous, and I wanted to capture their golden glow as well as the mountain peaks with early snow in the distance. I tried out my new mirrorless camera, a Canon EOS R6 at 24 mm, f/10, 1/125. In Lightroom and PhotoShop, I used a mask to lighten the trees slightly, adjusted the color, straightened the trees with the transform tool, and cropped. As always, I welcome your suggestions and feedback.

Hi Ruth. What an absolutely gorgeous scene! You've done an amazing job, not only with the capture itself, but the editing makes me feel as if I'm standing right there. No suggestions, as no improvements needed. Well done, indeed!   Posted: 11/01/2023 10:15:52

Hi Ruth, fantastic fall colours through the leaves against the blue of I presume silver birch, and sense of depth looking to the mountains beyond. Great image.   Posted: 11/05/2023 01:50:59

David, I wish we did have birch in Colorado. These are aspen which turn an amazing yellow gold in the autumn. Our Colorado weather is too dry for birch, however high elevation of 6,000-10,000 ft. is perfect for groves of aspen trees.   Posted: 11/06/2023 09:30:19

Hi Ruth,
The image of Aspen grove is so beautiful! The blue sky, the mountains in further distance, and the golden leaves are all the elements that constitute to a wonderful image. It's best when you captured the scene against the light but you were capable to brighten sucessfully the surrouding scene.
One minor suggestion is to crop tighter on the right (close to the tree) to eliminate the sky and the small tree there and to draw the viewers' eyes to the scene, but it's up to you to decide. Very nice image, and thanks for sharing your beautiful scene of Colorado!   Posted: 11/05/2023 17:35:29

Kieu-Hanh, thank you for your comments. I will consider a little more cropping on the right side as you suggest.   Posted: 11/06/2023 09:32:09

Ruth, beautiful fall image! I love aspen trees and when I went to Hope Valley to capture some I was disappointed as there has been some blight here. I think your editing has perfected this image and I have no suggestions!   Posted: 11/11/2023 18:57:56

Thank you for your kind comments. I love aspen trees too. Yes, I've seen evidence of blight in some areas of Colorado. The trees are not as golden yellow on those trees, but instead more brownish. The aspen in the Crested Butte area are quite healthy fortunately.   Posted: 11/16/2023 14:00:24
