About the Image(s)

I was driving into our community when I saw this palm leaf still attached to its tree. Rather than being blown away it apparently slid down the tree-still attached.
I have never seen anything like it before. Interesting.

Randolph, you've captured an interesting journalistic photo. I agree that it's unusual for a palm frond to slid down the trunk of a tree. Your image is quite straight forward and shows the details of the frond's position. I do like the top of the tree shown in the original too, since it shows the original position of the leaves and how far it slid.   Posted: 05/12/2021 10:21:15

Randolph, You captured an unusual scene of a dried palm tree frond still attached to the strong palm tree. The dried frond still has a lot of brown leaves on it. It makes me smile to think that it looks like an ending performance of a dancing couple, with the dried palm frond as the lady and the palm tree as her partner. I also appreciated your inclusion of the whole scene for better understanding.   Posted: 05/17/2021 15:05:32

What an interesting interpretation. Between watching ice shows and ballet once you said it I saw it. The sweeping of lady is classic.
Thank you.   Posted: 05/17/2021 15:29:35

Randolph, I rather like the uncropped image better than the cropped version. The original image gives some context. Another possibility would be to crop in even further to eliminate the distracting sign in the background to really give no doubt what the subject is. Nice that you were able to capture this, as I doubt it is something that happens very often.   Posted: 05/17/2021 21:38:35

Great capture, I also like the uncropped version to understand how far it fell. Journalistically, you can't clean up the black around the tree, but artistically, that might look better as green grass.   Posted: 05/18/2021 08:17:35

Hi Randy,

You found an exciting photo; I would have taken notice of this frond as well. I agree with Ruth; the image has a journalistic or even documentary style. This photograph has an impact as Kieu-Hanh said it made her smile. I find the community sign in the background helps give some context to the picture. I like how you captured the palm trees in the background by leaving separation between the trunks. The colors in this photo appear natural and accurate to the time of day, location, and season.

The only thing I can think of that may help enhance your photo is to add more contrast and possibly a white vignette. The bright afternoon light desaturates the colors a bit, so adding contrast would help strengthen those hues. The vignette would help hold the viewer's eye at the subject and not wander off to the edges of the frame.

Thanks for sharing your image; I enjoyed it very much.
