About the Image(s)
This image was captured at the fishing village of Lastres, Asturias (Spain) in 2023. It was captured by mobile phone, and I think that the cloudy sky looks better than the image captured by DSLR camera. Please let me know what you think.

Kieu -Hanh. Spain presents many photo opportunities and this canon makes for an interesting subject. With you phone's camera you've made a general documentary style travel imageā¦and if that was your intention, then I'd say you succeeded.
If, however, your intention was to create more of an artistic rendition, then, IMO, a different approach might have worked better. Without being able to choose the aperture, there is virtually no separation between subject and background - but again, maybe that was your intention, as you made mention of the clouds looking better in the phone shot. Additionally, I find the inclusion of the railing to be a really distracting element. The DOF issue notwithstanding, I think you would have a much stronger composition if you had removed the railing in post production.
Lastly, given that your image does not have a lot of color elements, a mono conversion might also enhance the composition (and with mono, I think you could really ramp up the drama of the beautiful sky).   Posted: 10/03/2024 18:52:42

Kieu-Hahb,
This was a lovely juxtaposition between the old cannon and the beautiful homes on the cliff to the right.. A couple of suggestions: 1 I would use the clone tool or something simillar to get rid of the white fence, which is very bright and also modern-looking 2. Perhaps a little more light on the back of the cannon would make it stand out ore. But it is a wonderful shot. You placement of the gun is off-center and the old sea wall works so well. Mostly just get rid of the white fencing. or pipes. Good seeing.   Posted: 10/06/2024 00:13:06

Kieu-Hanh, A nice travel image. I like the contrast in the clouds. The canon is well positioned. I agree about removing the white fence on the right. The depth of field issue does not detract from the image for me. But, I use an iPhone 13 Pro Max and have learned that you can get depth of field by using the portrait mode. I don't use any apps on the phone for the camera but I know they are available. Nice scene.   Posted: 10/16/2024 23:02:39

Thanks for your comments, Mary Ann! I know that the dynamic range of mobile phone cannot be compared to DSLR camera. In some travel conditions with a lot of people around that do not give me the luxury to use DSLR with tripod for shooting, I had to try the best I can. To me, the Portrait mode of iPhone will give a shallow depth of field instead.   Posted: 10/20/2024 22:16:27

The old cannon and weathered stone wall on which it's positioned offer some wonderful textures. Plus, I find the buildings in the background give a sense of place to this travel photo. If you chose, you could add contrast to the sky and make it more dramatic with the interesting clouds. I agree with the others that the white railing is distracting and doesn't fit with the old world feeling of the cannon. However, I understand that if you want to use the photo as a "travel photo", then you can't remove the railing or other elements in the photo.   Posted: 10/17/2024 21:39:57

I can't add much more than already stated in other comments. I like the image and agree that the sky is a very good feature of the photo.   Posted: 10/21/2024 14:04:58
