About the Image(s)

While on our recent overseas trip, our hotel in Palermo, Sicily overlooked the Piazza Ruggero Settimo. There was a statue of Ruggero Settimo (an Italian politician) in the centre of the plaza and a large Calvin Klein billboard beyond, featuring Kendall Jenner.
As I circled the statue looking for an interesting angle for a photograph, the possibilities of an interesting street photo developed.

What fun! This being a form of street photography, it doesn't need anything said. You captured one of those shots that will be passed on through the internet. Perhaps you might try darkening the right and top edges so that the eye is not drawn to it. And you have a great eye!!   Posted: 11/01/2023 22:18:26

Good humorous story!!! Nice frame within a frame to bring it out. I agree that original 2 has some interest but the spike is not helping at all, and Settimo appears to be looking down with disdain.   Posted: 11/02/2023 02:10:24

What a fun image! I like that you continued to move around and managed to get that spike at just the right spot! I probably would have walked right by this opportunity thinking it was too busy, but you were able to isolate the billboard and make a story from it. I do agree with Shirley that you might darken down the right side and top edge a bit. Also, I would try to remove or darken the street lamp on the left. Bravo on your sense of humor!   Posted: 11/05/2023 21:02:57

Thank you for your suggestions. I have desaturated and darkened the area surrounding the billboard, and I agree that it now makes a better image.   Posted: 11/05/2023 21:52:40

Martin, here's another phrase for the description of this shot....."pointed humor".
I like Piers comment about the figure in the statue looking down in destain.
Your desaturation and darkening of the surrounding areas is appropriate.
Good Eye to capture this.
