About the Image(s)

This was shot at a sunflower farm in central Arkansas with Nikon D610, 28-300mm at 55mm, manual mode, f/8.0, 1/400 sec, ISO 100, tripod mounted. I used the auto correction in Lightroom that gave it a good start in adjusting exposure, contrast, hi-lights, white balance. Then adjusted vibrance, clarity, texture, graduated filter for balance. Removed bee in Photoshop, as well as cloning some of the extra yellow in lower section by copying some of the leaves. Added sunset in Luminar. Cropped in LR and added border in Photoshop.

I love it!
Well done.
Don't change a thing, except maybe clone a little of the sunset colour over the white patches about halfway down on the right hand side just above the horizon.

I second Martin's comments. Just get a little more of the sunset color into the white sections on the right. Great job!   Posted: 12/07/2021 06:14:33

Nice warming effect of the new background and addition of unique compositional balance between the main flower and the dark cloud upper right. The dark background line above the leaves on the right seems to be a thicket of trees and there is a very dark object on the left. Both could go to simplify the image. I have found that painting with light blue before the sky replace in Luminar works. Also I would try to bring up the leaves in the lower part of the original to cover the dark spot.   Posted: 12/07/2021 09:59:08

I love your sunflower, Shirley and the edits that you have done to the flowers. The petals are sharp and the way they fold on the camera left gives them character. Although I like the orangey/red background, I feel a disconnect as the sunflowers are front lit by what feels like high-noon and the background sky is a setting sun. Maybe instead of replacing the sky, think about adding a background or texture. Just my opinion.   Posted: 12/07/2021 11:57:42

Shirley, I had to do a double-take when first viewing your image because of the incongruity of the setting sun directly behind the Sunflower (providing very low level of ambient light) while the flower, itself, is bathed in bright direct light. I had to look for signs of an artificial flash to illuminate the flower, but it is obvious from the shadows that you're dealing with direct sunlight.
I love the concept, but can't love the image because of the (obvious) replaced sky. My suggestion would be to chose a different "sky" (ie., include a few light, bright clouds) that could still allow credibility to the brightly lit flowers.
