July 2021 - Pelican

About the Image(s)

I went to the beach, and I saw some nice pelicans. I took this picture with a Nikon D800, Nikon lens 70-200mm. Mode S.
Please give me your comments. I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

Hung, I think the pelican is beautiful--sharp, good catch light. Although the bokeh is good with the buildings, I do feel that the buildings stand out too much and compete for the center of interest. Perhaps you can try cropping and then use the graduated filter in Lightroom to change exposure and soften the buildings. I have no experience with masking in Photoshop, but this one might be one to try masking the pelican onto another layer. Good luck. I'm anxious to see other comments.   Posted: 07/22/2021 13:33:16

Hung, I agree with Shirley, this is a great image, but the pelican is competing with the bright, colourful background. So I would suggest cropping out as much of the background as you can and then desaturate the remainder. Something like this   Posted: 07/24/2021 19:21:24

I agree with Martin. The building is more dominant than the Pelican. Martins severe crop removes the sense of being in a neighborhood, instead of being along a coastline.
The Pelican is VERY well captured, so congratulations on that.   Posted: 07/27/2021 15:00:36
