About the Image(s)

Shot at Arches National Park. My goal was to get that “star burst” from the sun. I obviously needed higher ISO but was fortunate to be able to pull out the shadows. Shot handheld with Nikon D610, 24mm, aperture priority, 1/30 sec, f/16, 1/3 EV, ISO 100. Lightroom adjustments and cropping. Photoshop to remove sunspot.

Arches!!!! One of my favorite places. Did you climb up to the Delicate Arch. Wow! Love your shot and you got a good star burst. Well done! The colors in this park are really worth the trip to photograph.   Posted: 07/02/2021 07:45:39

Thanks! It's an awesome place, and I would love to return one day. No, I did not go to Delicate Arch because my husband is limited in the amount of hiking he can do. So I missed out on some good spots but was blessed to be able to see much without hiking.   Posted: 07/02/2021 15:35:07

My husband cannot to heights so he did not follow my lead on that hike. I felt a bit guilty but he was all for me doing it as long as he did not have to! It was pretty scary to get up to it but breathtaking once there.   Posted: 07/02/2021 15:40:43

Beautiful shot, Shirley! I love the rich colors you were able to bring out in post. The sunburst really finishes the image nicely. I have never been to this location and maybe it's just me, but I do feel as though the rock is a bit tilted back. I wonder if that could me adjusted under Effects in LR?   Posted: 07/02/2021 10:48:16

Thanks, Karen. The tilt was intentional!   Posted: 07/02/2021 15:35:50

Very impressive shot and handling in post. You have brought out the red-brown tones and great color contrast with the sky.   Posted: 07/04/2021 19:02:49

Wow! Terrific photo. The west is where you find the most dramatic photos.   Posted: 07/04/2021 19:22:32

Love this shot SHIRLEY. You did a great job lightening and bringing out the rock colors without losing the terrific sun burst! Great photo!   Posted: 07/06/2021 10:44:03

This is a lovely part of the world and a great image. I like the sunburst.
We spent a day there in 2018. We managed to photograph delicate arch but we were not prepared for the long trek to get there!   Posted: 07/24/2021 20:05:13

Shirley,
Forgive my being late to the party this month, but it has been a busy month for me.
Like most others, I, too LOVE Arches Ntl. Park. This is eactly the type of image that I would take - and probably have. I love being able to get the Starburst effect - specially if it's just above, or just below an arch.
Your image, and post processing, has brought out the best of the rock! Well done!   Posted: 07/27/2021 14:54:33
