About the Image(s)

Never planted gladiolas before. They grow tall on long sturdy stems, but they always reminded me of funeral flowers. This particular morning, the sun was reflecting off of them so beautifully and the dew from the irrigation just set them off. Very little was done in post. I lower the highlights just a bit, cropped a small amount off the right side and removed some ancillary stems in photoshop. Comments appreciated.

Karen, you always do so well with your flower images. The colors are so vibrant, and the shadows from the sun shining gives it great dimension. I love the drops. My only suggestion would be to crop a little off the top--just above the top bud-- and then see if you might need to balance it better by taking a tad off the bottom. Looks like you'll have gladiolas from now on to play with!   Posted: 06/01/2021 16:40:18

Thank you so much, Shirley. I entered this in our state's (F3C.org) tri-annual competition. Let's see if it makes the cut!   Posted: 06/06/2021 12:38:37

Nice composition. I like the negative space on the right and how it contrasts with the stems on the left. The combination of the triple flower, stamens and drops makes it a strong image. Good luck.   Posted: 06/06/2021 19:07:56

Shooting the light! This is what makes this photo so strong. I also appreciate the negative space on the right. It enhances the strength of the composition. I will look forward to more gladiolas from you!   Posted: 06/08/2021 10:12:49

This is an image of "gladdies" that Dame Edna Everidge would enjoy (sorry, an Australian joke).

I agree with Jaqueline, the light is perfect, the red and green colours complement each other and I like the negative space on the right hand side.
Well done and keep them coming!   Posted: 06/14/2021 20:43:29
