Christmas Parade by Dennis Hirning, FPSA, MPSA

December 2021 - Christmas Parade

About the Image(s)

Canon 5D III, 24-105mm @ 50mm, f/4.0, 1/15 sec, ISO 6400

One of the decorated bicycles in our Christmas Parade this year. A little cropping, some tweaking with Luminar AI, toning down the other two bicycles to make them less of a distraction from the main one.

How interesting. I got the impression that the picture is not level. The movement of the bicycles is emphasized by the blurred background and this adds to the scene.   Posted: 12/10/2021 12:07:35

The street is level. The background building wasn't perpendicular to the camera view. I probably could show you a bunch of blurred bikes from a different angle against that background. The spot I picked didn't even have anything to do about finding a good background. Everything was pure luck. :)   Posted: 12/10/2021 12:13:38

A well focused panned image at 1/15 sec.
Just got done seeing the bike parade in Bellingham last night though I didn't bring my camera.   Posted: 12/12/2021 20:08:59

There's definitely a feeling of movement. Good job with toning down the other 2 bikes. Agree with Neil that it isn't quite level but it's hard to take a picture like this and get all perfect. Nice job!

I think it is level. At least according to the lines on the street and the vertical lines appear to correct.   Posted: 12/14/2021 12:04:17

Fun! Nice capture of the mood of the event. Amazing that you got the guy's face as clear as you did. Love the colors.   Posted: 12/15/2021 17:07:48

It Looks like panning photography. Eyes lead to the smiling face of the 1st biker. Actually, panning photography is my favorite one.   Posted: 12/16/2021 00:43:59

This is an actual panning photograph. I don't think that I have ever caught one that turned out this sharp. I think that he must have been coasting since there doesn't seem to be any motion except in the wheels.   Posted: 12/16/2021 07:30:12

The way you isolated the main bike from the others , by using a vignette, I suppose, worked really well. That he's up front and larger than the others helps too. Good pan. Did you have many others?   Posted: 12/18/2021 16:24:12

I had taken 6 of this biker. This was the frame right after the one I submitted, with no editing.I did work to get the other bikers toned down to keep them from being a distraction.   Posted: 12/18/2021 17:30:58
