Peeled Orange by Neal R. Thompson, M.D.

May 2021 - Peeled Orange

About the Image(s)

I really like oranges. These were set up on a table in my digital darkroom. The background is black velvet. It is lighted by only one light that is rather diffused. Sony 6300 with Tamron lens 18-200 at 67 mm; 1/15th second at f/8; with iso 1600.

I really like oranges and I do like this image but wish the oranges themselves were a bit sharper. So I opened them in Photoshop. Opened Topaz Studio 2. Then opened Smudge and increased the sharpness a bit and am submitting my result for your consideration.   Posted: 05/02/2021 12:36:39

You are absolutely right. I have Topaz Studio 2 but have not used it much. Your image looks much better. Thanks. Neal   Posted: 05/03/2021 18:54:31

This is beautiful Neal! I agree that the front segment is a bit soft, but your version without Bev's smudge is reminiscent of the Dutch floral paintings. This makes me want to get out my black velvet and try some still lives. What a wonderful project that would have been for the past thirteen months!   Posted: 05/04/2021 17:51:52

This is a lovely photograph. I might have lightened it a bit. Yes the front left is a bit soft and, while the Topaz adjusted version fixes that, I think it looks more like a painting.   Posted: 05/08/2021 08:21:08
