Green Frog in Cranberry Wet Harvest by Stanley Selkow

February 2021 - Green Frog in Cranberry Wet Harvest

About the Image(s)

Near my home in Harwich, MA, USA is a cranberry bog which does a wet harvest (the berries are mechanically shaken off the vines, and the bog is flooded after which the berries are pulled into the center and suctioned into a truck). This frog was stranded among the floating cranberries.
The handheld camera was a Canon EOS R, with a Canon RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens. Exposure 1/400 sec at f/4.0, focal length 200, ISO 100. Simple processing in Lightroom (I lost the details) followed by Topaz AI Sharpen.

Stan I love how you captured the bright colors and textures of the frog and berries in your photo. The shallow depth of field with the sharp details of the foreground frog and berries focuses your eyes on the main subject in the photo. I also like how you placed the frog in the center of the photo further emphasizing the action of the frog. My only suggestion would be to clone out the small green sprout in the upper right corner of the photo as the green color is distracting. See edited photo.   Posted: 02/02/2021 09:38:39

Thorro. I think it's funny how a blemish which I've never noticed becomes a serious flaw once I take the time to look closely. Thanks for getting me to look closer.   Posted: 02/02/2021 09:44:03

It happens to me too. No matter how many times I look at one of my photos someone else seems to notice something I have overlooked. :)

Stanley, thank you for putting a smile on m face. He is so cute! Great suggestion from Thorro.. mine is very minor.. If you can darken your cranberries so he can pop a bit more. Also, if you have the opportunity to take it again try getting down to his level vs shooting from above. Fun photo,   Posted: 02/05/2021 20:02:17

I think this is a very good photo and the frog looks like it is smiling at us. Could you try an additional edit of this with it cropped fairly closely to the frog on all 4 sides? The the entire focus would be the frog and we would see much less of the berries.

Stanley, you did a great job with this photo. I like the game with the complementary colors red and green. The edited version gives your photo the finishing touch.
