About the Image(s)

I've been trying to become proficient with orchids, and I didn't like the original background on this. So this is the original, then a new one with a textured background and some other Photoshop playtime. Not the greatest, but I still would like input?

Hope this will qualify for my Macro submission!

It was taken with my former mirrorless, the Olympus OMD-1 original. Macro creative setting, handheld. Very overcast, drizzly day with some wind.

Hi Carol,
It's a lovely image. The orchid and pastel colors impart a peaceful mood. Your lighting allows me to see the texture on the flower. I like your use of the texture for the background. I use textures for background replacements myself.

Well, if you are following the discussion on the Bulletin Board, then strictly speaking, it doesn't! But I don't mind, rules are made for bending if the result is as good as this. Lovely.

Don't say you've deserted Olympus !?!?!   Posted: 12/05/2020 16:04:31

Ah, you just skipped the M1ii then, which I have. If they'd upped the pixel count in the sensor I might have been tempted as well, but am now waiting to see if there'll be an M1iv from the new owners.   Posted: 12/06/2020 02:21:43

I'm glad you came to your senses and called it an iris. d;¬{D

This is a lovely image, with the soft pastels of the petals against the soft texture you replaced the background with. It is very soothing and probably would be a good fit for a waiting room to soothe anxious people. It may not be a 1:1 image (I have no reference to its actual size), but we all like the results. d:¬{D   Posted: 12/17/2020 00:24:43

Hi Carol, just visiting from Group 57. Always like your flower images, and I like what you have done to eliminate the distracting background. Don't you just hate that wind, always comes up when shooting macro, haha. As an alternative, you might try brushing out some of the texture on that top petal. Looks like there is some detail there that would be nice to see.   Posted: 12/18/2020 13:49:19
