Yellow Flower w/Bee by Bill Foy

October 2020 - Yellow Flower w/Bee

About the Image(s)

This image was made in August, 2020 at Mt. Cuba Center in Hokessin, DE. I recently found this great place and I'm still in the process of learning my around. There's a lot to see and photograph. All adjustments made in Adobe Camera Raw. Nikon D500, Nikkor 150mm Macro Lens, f/11, 1/400, ISO-1250, no flash, I'm pretty sure I used my combo uni/tripod.

I enlarged this to see all the detail; nicely sharp down to the littlest details of the flower (the hairy legs!). I'm not sure the bee is clear enough because of the shadows and blacks. Can you brush some lightness just onto the bee? Bring it up a bit? I love your image of the flower, just the right amount of softness and a beautiful depth of field. The bee is the only part that doesn't work for me :-(   Posted: 10/04/2020 18:07:05

Hi Bill
I like colors and shadows. It's sharp and pleasing to my eye.

I like this a lot, especially with the lovely bokeh background that pops the flower with its guest.

I fould that it was a little crowded, so I cropped it on the left, added canvas on the right and did an InPainting Fill in Affinity Photo (equivalent to Content-Aware in Photoshop). I then removed the blurry flower behind, and finally dodged the bee to bring it more visible. Thoughts?   Posted: 10/16/2020 16:02:15
