Red Shouldered Hawk at Sunset by Sherry Icardi

February 2021 - Red Shouldered Hawk at Sunset

About the Image(s)

I stayed and watched this guy for over 1/2 hour to try and catch him in flight, unfortunately the sunset came and I gave up simply because the light was so poor. Regardless this bird clearly posed for me nicely and I took several shots, pretty sure that it must have eaten an hearty meal prior to my arrival. None the less a striking bird and we will be getting to nesting season shortly for these raptors.

Beautiful light, beautiful bird and tack-sharp!

You must have been fairly far away from the bird, because the leaves surrounding the Hawk are all nearly nicely focused.

I'm not sure what is to the right of the bird, but in a perfect world I would have liked to see the bird in the left 1/3 of the shot and more open space to the right of the frame.

Here it is with bird in left 1/3 ...I just didn't like the way the branches were on this one...thought they were distracting and I still had room for where it was looking so I decided to go with that crop. But I get the point, just not sure I like the composition as much. Will have to look at it a while to decide.

Certainly do not like that one...too much dead space and that branch is too distracting...so I tried square and cleaned up the branch.   Posted: 02/10/2021 11:24:21

Tac sharp image, love the colors, and it is a beautiful bird.
I might like to see the it placed more to the left.   Posted: 02/08/2021 19:57:06

I like both versions of the photo! I can see why you were attracted to your original crop.   Posted: 02/10/2021 11:22:36

After looking at all these, I see why you like the original crop. Even though his head is turned, his eye is right on you. Beautiful photo of a beautiful bird.   Posted: 02/14/2021 11:13:14

Beautiful hawk, very sharp, love the lighting. I agree, original crop was the best choice.   Posted: 02/23/2021 20:53:29
