David, I really like this image. As I'm hung up on rule of thirds, might have cropped such that cap intersects upper left grid lines. Just personal preference.   Posted: 06/04/2020 19:43:36

Thanks Donald, the problem was I positioned the Fungi too high in the image and I could not move it down any further.   Posted: 06/04/2020 23:24:34

Hi David, The yellow beneath the fungi is really striking and stands out against the background. It really highlights the subject. Maybe if you crop foreground it will bring the fungi closer to the one third and not take away anything from the image. Just a suggestion.   Posted: 06/10/2020 15:30:54

This is a fantastic image. Mushrooms/Fungi get a bad "wrap" when in fact the are extremely interesting subjects. The colors on this one are striking. Have you thought about making this a square composition. I put some paper up and I think it might be worthwhile giving it a try. It takes away the blurred foreground and your eye automatically goes to the fungi since it is the lightest thing in the frame and the angle becomes more important (which really shows off the underside of the mushroom). Just a thought........because either way it is a great image.   Posted: 06/14/2020 14:29:09

Thanks Sherry, I have always been caught up with the 3 to 2 ratio and you are right, the square composition definitely improves the image.   Posted: 06/15/2020 01:46:27

I too have always had that same bias, and because I use Instagram I've found that square just works better. Someone in one of my former groups also told me that it has a higher percentage of wins in competition. Not sure if that is true or not......but it made me stop and think about using the square in some circumstances.   Posted: 06/26/2020 12:00:13
