About the Image(s)

I took this photograph on our escape from California camping trip. This is Deadhorse Ranch State Park in Arizona. The first time I was out at first light the mist on the water was intriguing.
Editing with Corel Paintshop Pro and Corel Aftershot Pro. I cropped in on the fisherman and put him in one of the power points. I brought up the brightness of the trees and the shadows in the lake. Please let me know if this is overeditted.

I see this photo as having muted colors and with the mist on the water make it very relaxing for me. Darcy, I agree with you in that the mist on the water makes this an intriguing photo. I like the way the colors work together and I think the cropping so that the fisherman is on the right third of the image looking to the left shows good composition.

In my opinion the focus man in the boat and the reeds and foliage in the background would benefit from being sharper and help the subject (fisherman) stand out a bit more.   Posted: 10/09/2020 10:23:23

Thank you for the comments. If I sharpen just the fisherman this can be done with a mask right?   Posted: 10/23/2020 15:56:38

Love the mist. I would straighten the waterline and maybe place it at the halfway mark to emphasize the fisherman, his reflection, and the mist. The vegetation is more of a distraction.   Posted: 10/14/2020 12:01:06

Would you try and blur the background?   Posted: 10/23/2020 16:02:18

You have some interesting choices Darcy as regards the horizon. You can place it in the center as Jeff suggests or raise it to emphasize the stillness of the water and presence of the mist, or lower it thus hinting at the mist and drawing more attention to the foliage. Personally, I lean more towards emphasizing the water and the accompanying mist.   Posted: 10/14/2020 12:17:46

If I raise the horizon won't that push the fisherman farther away for the viewer?

You did a good job on this image. Interesting mist and good composition. I'd keep the waterline as it is not right in the middle mark to maintain golden mean ratio.   Posted: 10/17/2020 10:08:06
