About the Image(s)

With the current madness, I have been forced to take more photos locally. This shot is from my backyard. I have also tried to use this time to work on some photoshop skills. This is an exposure blend of two RAW photos (both attached without tonal adjustments), one exposed for the ground, the other for the sky. I used luminosity masks to assist in the blending. I also used perspective warp to straighten the power poles. NIK Color Efex Pro and Topaz AI Sharpener were also used after I created a smart object in PS.

1st Exposure: F11 1 second ISO 100
2nd Exposure : F11 1/13 second ISO 100

Joe McNally (a National Geographic photographer) said that anytime you fully light an image it is boring, but when you partially light an image you have magic.

That is what you have here, all those shadow areas in the foreground add so much drama to the scene and are a perfect compliment to the lovely sky.   Posted: 09/07/2020 16:52:55

Jeff, I really like this photo. For me the main point of interest is center of the lower clouds where you have a brighter exposure. I think the colors are great and work well together with the bright red/orange of the clouds above contrasted with the greens and browns of the marshland below. I like what you have done with the lighting, having the brightest part in the middle of the frame and then radiating out with the intensity of light dropping off to the edges. For me that accentuates the colors of the clouds in the center. I also appreciate that you have crisp focus and depth of field throughout.

The only thing I wonder about is the branches showing in the upper left corner. I see that they help frame the image but I think it might help if they were removed.

Great picture and it shows that we are lucky to have you joining our group.   Posted: 09/18/2020 14:49:11
