Waiting for Neowise by Darcy Quimby

September 2020 - Waiting for Neowise

About the Image(s)

Canon 80D Lens 28-300mm tripod
ISO 250 Shutter speed 1/30 f/8 46mm
I was waiting for the comet Neowise to appear and saw this man also waiting for the comet. I cropped in on him, and cropped out a lot of the sky. Other than that it is straight out of the camera

I like the silhouette effect and I think the simplicity of the photo positively adds to the image. I think it is intriguing that you have allowed just a small bit of detail in the rocks perceivable. I think the soft coloring of the sky also works to excellent benefit.

I think a tighter crop would make the individual stand out more and, in my opinion would make it more interesting.   Posted: 09/08/2020 13:37:14

Thank you for the recommendation after looking at the photograph I agree with the tighter crop

Well done Darcy. I agree with Ed about the silhouette and details remaining visible in the foreground. Disagree about cropping more as in my opinion the dark foreground gives the image scale.   Posted: 09/08/2020 16:48:00

thank you for like the subtle detail. I did not realize the foreground has people in it, until I cropped in.   Posted: 09/15/2020 17:37:03

Darcy, I like "The Thinker" kind of pose in the silhouette.I might have cropped the foliage on the extreme right though since I (personally) find it a distraction.   Posted: 09/11/2020 14:38:50

"The Thinker" is appropriate...great silhouette. In my view, the bushes on either side of the Thinker "do not compliment" your image. I tried something...hope you don't mind   Posted: 09/14/2020 12:23:57

Thank you for removing the foliage I realized it is actually out of focus   Posted: 09/15/2020 17:40:41

I like what Paul did by removing the foliage all together. I also like the thinker as a title because waiting for neowise has really no meaning to anyone.   Posted: 09/15/2020 17:39:28

I agree with the comments on removing the foliage on either side of the subject.

I'm torn on the rock detail in the foreground. In my mind I would either have them darker so you see no detail at all, or increase the exposure in the shadows, as they look pretty interesting.   Posted: 09/19/2020 08:14:03
