About the Image(s)

This image was one of the many photos I took at Yosemite National Park. I like this image as it presents stillness/emptiness/melancholy. It is subjective, of course. Technical info: ISO 250, EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lenses, 39.0mm focal length, AV mode, Center weighted Average metering mode. PS post processing.

Stillness, Yes. Quiet, Yes. And Cold! It looks cold, there. But melancholy...No. It is a joy to view. Great reflections !   Posted: 08/03/2020 15:58:04

This is a fabulous composition, Jean. Your color rendering is perfect too. I like the juxtaposition of the orange and blue colors. Your image is calming with the splash of blue in the upper background. You actually have a nice RGB color scheme.
And, as everyone is on the lookout for these days, your image has a good supply of triangles. But the snow really brings your image to life. It provides good separation.   Posted: 08/03/2020 17:22:15

What catches my attention most in this image is the sharp contrast of the rich colors with the snow. I like the way the diagonal line of the water's edge separates the photo providing a nice break from the muted colors of water to the intense colors of the shore line and trees. For me the reflections in the water are a positive addition to the image. I think the white of the snow highlights these colors and then provides, which for me, is a good transition to the greens and blues of the background. In my opinion the focus and depth of field is very well done. and I like the overall composition and positioning of the elements of the photo.

I think portions of the snow are a bit overexposed and at the same time I believe that the hillside in the background could be just a little bit darker.

I think it is a great image and I wish I could do that well on a consistent basis.   Posted: 08/08/2020 17:45:25

Thanks for your comment! You got the point. I probably tuned up the image more than I should in certain areas.   Posted: 08/09/2020 11:17:28

I agree with Dan, this image is not melancholy but is much more introspective. I have taken may hikes in the mountains and walking along a path such as this, I am usually reflecting on past experiences in life. This image brings back many memories of the good things in life that I have enjoyed.   Posted: 08/10/2020 10:31:27

I love the image and I am drawn to the reflection. I also like the three trees and how they draw you down the bank of the river. Great composition.   Posted: 08/10/2020 19:00:14
