About the Image(s)

Camera Settings : Canon Rebel T5 ISO 200 !/250 F8 500mm Tamron lens 150mm-600mm
This was taken on our summer trip to Yellowknife NWT Canada 8/21/19 early afternoon. We were out scoping places to set up shooting the Northern Lights for later in the evening. I did not use a tri-pod thank goodness for image stabilization. I zoomed in just enough to capture the feel of the water over rocks.

This image has a nice relaxing impact on me. I like the way the trees on the side frame the water fall and I also like the focus on the water fall in that it still conveys motion while not being overly vigorous. For me the colors are soft and work well together, adding to the "quiet" scene.

I perceive the point of interest to be the water fall and, in my opinion, it could be accented more by cropping down from the top so that the water fall moves up closer to the bottom "line of thirds" as I've tried to do.   Posted: 05/11/2020 18:00:23

I am glad the image relaxes you. I try and frame my scenes with something natural in the environment. I hope that makes sense. I like just that little move in the rapids changes where the eye lands.   Posted: 05/27/2020 19:58:12

Hi Darcy, I appreciate your attraction to moving water, in particular, waterfalls. You picked the right weather conditions for your photo. You appear to have an overcast sky which works in your favor so the white water is not blown out. I also like how you used the tree on the right for framing. This is one of those images that I referred to a couple months back where you can hear the sound of the water in your image - nicely done. I would like to see just a little more punch in the overall image. Perhaps a curves layer to add a very small amount contrast. with that said, I like your restraint in keep the color saturation down. There's an expression of peacefulness in the way you captured and processed this picture.   Posted: 05/13/2020 11:33:10

I think water is my second favorite thing to photograph. Thank you so much for the comments. This is straight out of the camera, I might try to bring up the contrast.   Posted: 05/27/2020 20:06:37

Nicely done Darcy. I agree with Ed but I would choose to adjust the camera position to include more water at the bottom (instead of cropping). Either way I like the image.   Posted: 05/17/2020 12:16:04
