Darkside of a rising city #1 by Brandon Montgomery

April 2021 - Darkside of a rising city #1

About the Image(s)

I took this photo in a part of downtown Sacramento that is known for this edgier side. I saw a lady walking with a cart with what seemed to be groceries. I took the shot when I saw her in front of a building that has been rundown and condemned for quite some time. The photo was aimed at telling a story that even though some parts of a city are rising due to new development, in some parts of a city, the story remains the same.
Sony A7riii ISO 125, 70mm, f/2.8, and 1/125 of a sec.

I love this photo very much. My professional background is adaptive reuse in architecture, so I have more feelings about the alternation of the old and the new in the city. When disused buildings are demolished, it means that the symbol of an era is destroyed.   Posted: 04/01/2021 14:57:40

Thank you Zixu! I love capturing scenes like this as it captures moments not always seen.   Posted: 04/11/2021 11:42:20

Your title fits the image. Nice to see it done in monochrome. Don't know what the color image, if any, looks like. We can imagine. I'm not usually a fan of butt shots and this one is an exception that works. I like your composition.   Posted: 04/02/2021 17:22:01

Thank you Chuck! This was on a overcast day in the afternoon. I saw this lady walking and with the background next to her, I was intrigued.   Posted: 04/11/2021 11:43:53

Good Street Photography which tells the story short and sweet. Technical aspects are well done. All the different shades and textures are well displayed. Excellent result overall.   Posted: 04/04/2021 11:27:12

Thank you Bev! With Sacramento entering a post COVID world, I've been capturing photos of the city of what has changed and not changed. I anticipate this project will take a few months.   Posted: 04/11/2021 11:47:40

Great image. I like how I am able to see inside the building, the door, cabinets, etc. I find that weird and creepy. I think you did a great job with the composition for both the building and the person. I think this is a fine example of street photography.   Posted: 04/06/2021 07:56:28
