About the Image(s)

The photo was taken several years back when we visited the Norsk Folkmuseum, an open air museum in Oslo, Norway. One of the staff, dressed in their traditional attire inside an old wooden Viking house was playing the violin. I asked her to pose beside the open window which became the only source of light aside from the single candle at the table in the completely dark room. I converted the original photo into B&W with Nik's Silver Efex Pro. Then I created two images, one two stops under exposed to create the dark backgound and a regular exposure for the subject. I blended the two images and added the beam of light coming from the window for a more dramatic effect.

This is an amazing photo. The light is fantastic. A true exhibit winner. I love the detail in the violin and the light on the woman's face. You did a phenomenal job going from color to B and W. Nice blending. Pro shot.   Posted: 02/07/2021 14:27:11

Great shot that really shows the subject of the Violinist. The lighting from the window is a asset that really helps bring out the subject. Also, works well in black and white. Nice shot.   Posted: 02/08/2021 07:43:03

Hi Albert, I think this is a great image and your post processing is nicely done. This is the kind of image I always hope to capture but I find can be pretty elusive. The original color image is great and provided a good starting point for your finished image. I really like the added light beam, it does give the image that something extra.   Posted: 02/12/2021 11:46:31
