November 2020 - Daily Commute

About the Image(s)

Here is my November image. I took this image a few years ago in Spello, Italy, a small city in central Italy. Canon 7D, Canon 17-85 lens at 70mm. ISO 400, 1/250 sec at f/6.3

I did very little to this image in post processing. I had to straighten it and I lighted the shadows as well as doing some overall sharpening.

I love the shadows created by the late afternoon ( or early morning)sun on the subjects as it adds more drama and dimension . I love the casual expression of the young Italian mother with her son in tow as you capture this fleeting scene.I was wondering if you have another shot using 17mm to show a little more of the backgound of this small Italian town.It would also be nice.   Posted: 11/07/2020 07:54:42

Thanks Albert. I agree with your comment about the composition, seeing the whole shadow of the bike would be nice. I'm not sure why I did a vertical image, I just checked because I thought perhaps I had some other images I took of the woman and child so I could see what the surrounding looked like but I do not. I'm going to assume that I framed it as such to eliminate some chaotic elements. Anymore I try not to frame the original too tight and do the cropping in Lightroom.   Posted: 11/11/2020 16:37:22

Exposiure is perfect and the image has good interest. The mom and kid are looking right at you. You sure timed it right to get the subject right in the middle of the sunlight slit. Good eye with a scene that came along very fast.
Agree with Albert. A constructive comment is to use a more normal focal length, landscape framing, so we see the complete shadow of the bicycle and more of the scene which would tell more of a story. The crop is a little too tight.   Posted: 11/07/2020 14:29:39

You captured the feel of Italy. I love the bike shadow and the everyday life not surrounded by tourists. I have been here and it brought me right back.   Posted: 11/07/2020 19:57:40

I like this capture of ones commute and how the shadows reflect off from the subject. The composition also plays out well. Good capture.   Posted: 11/08/2020 11:05:31
