Bustling by Chuck Carstensen

September 2020 - Bustling

About the Image(s)

This young lady is bustling to get to her car and out of the Farmers Market with food for dinner. She was paying attention to a musician to my left and her right. I found a place to sit and had been watching people walk to the parking lot. I like the appearance of her walking out of the frame. Fujifilm XE3, ISO 200, 1/160, f/16. Processed in Luminar 4.

Great effect of her walking out of the frame, your timing is spot on.   Posted: 09/07/2020 07:15:55

Hi Chuck
Though the title is "Bustling" I really don't get the sense of that in this image. The subject is a sole woman walking away from what looks like fairly sedate groups clustered at small tents. Nonetheless, she makes a striking figure. I wonder if bumping up the exposure, brightening her shopping bag, and cropping the bisected tents at both sides that take the eye out of the image would be worth considering. I did a quick edit in PS to consider what I mean.   Posted: 09/08/2020 00:47:22

Geoff, thanks for the idea. FYI, this lady was REALLY in a hurry.   Posted: 09/11/2020 08:23:27

I like how the image captures the subject. The subject wearing a mask also adds to the shot as it reflects the times we're living in right now.   Posted: 09/10/2020 08:55:25

I agree with Brandon, I like the mask and the context it provides. I also agree with Geoff regarding the exposure, I think that lightening the shadows helps the image. I like the title, under the current circumstances that seems like this is a bustling scene.   Posted: 09/10/2020 18:01:15
