Drinks After The Rain by Brandon Montgomery

September 2020 - Drinks After The Rain

About the Image(s)

I have seen I have been one to do more street photos without people or few people. This is a photo I took back in 2018 on the rainy night in Sacramento in November. I walked in a part of town I normally don't venture in at night. I then stumbled upon Capital Hop Shop. I set up my tripod and took the photo to see what I can get as photographing after the rain is something I was getting more familiar with. I did some editing in Lightroom with Tungsten as my base. A bartender can be seen on the inside. I now go to this bar on a daily basis.

Camera Nikon d3400, ISO 100, 18mm, f/3.5, 3/5 of a sec. A tripod was used.

Thank you Jill. This is a particular color scheme that I like at night. There's something about it that adds life to that part of town.   Posted: 09/10/2020 08:40:48

Sweet colors! Where is this located? Reminds me of the 60's diner days. Nice capture.   Posted: 09/07/2020 21:01:08

I think that the wet pavement reflecting the colours from the building is what makes this image work. I wonder it having someone walking in from the right side of the frame would add more of a human connection and tie the outside with the bar in some way.   Posted: 09/08/2020 00:10:22

Thank you Geoff, I like to take photos after the rain. The aim was get a photo without people as I tend to do photos with people or with minimal people in the shot. I also do see having someone walk in as having a connection.   Posted: 09/10/2020 08:45:40

Hi Brandon, I really like this image. I love the composition, the way the building is angled and the parking garage in the background. I think that after dark images with reflected light have a wonderful mood. I look at the image and think that this seems like a nice place, I wonder what it is like, I think that I would like to be there. In my opinion the bar tender is enough of human element.   Posted: 09/10/2020 18:06:07

Thank you Lou, it's an excellent establishment that has a rare color scheme at night that other Sacramento places don't have. The part of Sacramento where this bar is located doesn't get photographed very often making this location a gem for photography.   Posted: 09/12/2020 13:05:01
