About the Image(s)

Sony a7riii 1000 ISO, 51mm, and 1/1600 sec.
I took this photo on an intense day of protesting in Sacramento. I marched with the protestors for several hours for 12 miles in total. I took several photos. This photo was when a protest organizer whose seen in this picture led an incursion into the I-5 freeway. There was a brief faceoff with the California High Patrol, but eventually a fence was torn down, which led to access into the freeway. This is the moment that occurred before access into the freeway. I ran constantly in order to stay ahead of the large group in order to see what shots to get and this is one of them. Emotions ran high on this day making for the most intense day of photography I've had so far. Later in the day, I spoke with the man in this photo about the power of photography. You can't see it in this photo, but he had a camera in his hand as he was taking a photo of the State Troopers. I kept the photo as is with no editing.

Powerful image Brandon. I like the composition and the way the people fit together to tell a story. I don't mind that the top of the two heads are cut off, I think it adds to the impact of the story. I think it was have been able to get his camera in the image, but you can't have everything. I think you have a fine image that is relevant to the time.   Posted: 06/06/2020 17:14:02

Thank you Lou! It was a day in where I took an estimated over 1,000 photos. I'm still going through them. For an event like this, I tend not to know what I got until I upload the images.   Posted: 06/08/2020 19:55:23

I hear ya. And I find sometimes that after I look at my photos my favorite one day is no longer the favorite a few days later.   Posted: 06/09/2020 17:15:48

That's been something I've seen in protest photos as well as new photos emerge. This one I have as amongst the top ones I took. I believe in a situation like this it's about getting a moment that stands out.   Posted: 06/10/2020 18:37:07

I agree, I think this one is a long term keeper. It certainly tells a story of the times we live in.   Posted: 06/11/2020 10:38:43

A sign of our times. Thankfully in Australia we have had a very peaceful time without people protesting about the health regulations that are in place to protect everyone from corona virus infection. I wonder if a tighter crop would make it more dramatic, increasing the relative size of the police line in the image.   Posted: 06/10/2020 03:38:18

Thank you Geoff, its been an interesting year for Photography in the US. With the year halfway over, I wonder what second half will bring in regards to photos.   Posted: 06/10/2020 18:42:13

I expect you will get lots of photographic opportunities around the election time.   Posted: 06/10/2020 18:55:41

I imagine so as well. I got more memory cards the other day in anticipation. We're expecting events like this on a more common basis. The political vibe in the United States is hot and on edge and it'll likely be that way into the November election.   Posted: 06/10/2020 21:37:32

It is a historic time and that has captured it, being able to see the masks places it in time.   Posted: 06/14/2020 00:00:33
