About the Image(s)

This month I am continuing with Coronavirus influenced photos. Recently a protest occurred in Sacramento. I was able to get some photos of the event as it unfolded. I got this shot of a Sacramento Police Officer on Bike looking on as protesters drive by on their vehicles beeping their horns as they drove in circles around the capitol. A second group of protesters lined the sidewalks with signs. This was my fist time photographing a protest. I did some work in Lightroom to it by using Tungsten and adjusting the coloring.

I think this image really tells a story, to me the police officer absolutely makes this image, it gives the image a sense of unrest that I don't think would be so evident without his presence. Nicely done.   Posted: 05/05/2020 17:42:54

Great story, historic moment, the policeman absolutely anchors it. Well seen, good composition.   Posted: 05/06/2020 02:59:01

A potent image. From the perspective of Australia (with 4 deaths per 1 million population), the 242 deaths per million (and rising fast) in the USA is horrifying. The fact that there are protests such as this against the measures in place to minimise the climbing death rate leaves us wondering.

Great shot, thought I am not sure if I like the colour balance. Would a gritty B&W work for this image?   Posted: 05/10/2020 01:57:46

Thank you Geoff, I do believe a black and white version would give the image a good look. I do imagine I'll take it in that direction for a future version.

It's an interesting time for photography as this photo is part of project I've been working on in regards to the Coronavirus pandemics affect in Sacramento. After this protest, we've had three other protest, which I also photographed.   Posted: 05/10/2020 18:00:24

It sounds like an interesting project. We still have fairly restrictive lockdown here in Australia (varies by state but in Victoria we are still expected to stay at home most of the time.   Posted: 05/11/2020 00:03:30

Very good capture, framing and clarity of the image. Why did you give it the Tungsten hue? It looks muted and subdued. Was that the look you were going for?
I would have tried an old Kodachrome 64 look with a bit more saturation key and grain. Also Geoff had a good suggestion with the B&W.   Posted: 05/11/2020 19:30:39

Thank you Orest, I was looking for a coloring scheme that matched what the day looked like. A black and white version is one I will develop. I'll also look at the Kodachrome 64 look.   Posted: 05/12/2020 10:08:11
