January 2020 - Surf Rescue

About the Image(s)

An opportunistic phone photo showing the packing up of the water safety following the 2.4 km ocean swim at Anglesea, my beach, on the Surf Coast. A real community event including a shorter distance 1.2 km for kids and others, 800 people competed needing an army of volunteers to register, setup and manage. It is run by the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club.

Jill, I think you have done a fine job of capturing the feeling of the event and the volunteers. There is a lot of activity in the image and I think you have captured it well. I like how I can see into the image to get a good idea of what is going on down the beach. To my eye there is too much sky, I think cropping off about half of it may strengthen the image.   Posted: 01/05/2020 18:17:36

Ah - a very Aussie scene. I agree with Lou that the sky could be cropped (or maybe add a strategic wisp of cloud or two as an alternative). I don't feel the white car adds much to the story - might be better cropped on that side, and if you have more on the original frame on the left it might be good to add, as to my eye the people on the left launching the boat are a bit cramped by the edge of the frame. Perhaps something like the attached.   Posted: 01/08/2020 16:54:31

The sky is big and very blue, i was aiming at including the vehicle but I think you are right it is better without it. Unfortunately I do not have anymore to the left.   Posted: 01/14/2020 20:11:09

On reflection, I agree, the sky does add a sense of space. As always cropping is very subjective. Nice image, anyway.   Posted: 01/15/2020 00:04:37

I like this beach shot as I see a scene unfolding here with multiple stories of beach life.   Posted: 01/12/2020 07:58:05
