About the Image(s)
This was taken in Merritt Wildlife Refuge this winter. I think it is a woodcock but my friend thinks it is a snipe. I am attracted by the feeling that he thinks he is hidden and the camouflage is great!

Sharp bird image regardless of the sticks! The bird does indeed look like he's in hiding. I would suggest possibly darkening the water areas as my eye goes to them first due to their brightness, and possibly cropping just a little on the top and right side to more emphasize your subject. Merritt Refuge is a great place to shoot.   Posted: 03/11/2023 15:57:07
Looks like a woodcock. Nice capture in a natural setting. I agree that darkening the water would be helpful. Or darken everything except the bird. I would experiment with a very tight crop just to see how it looks.   Posted: 03/17/2023 08:08:30
The bird's eye is sharp and becomes outstanding among its camouflage. I agree with Jack and David suggestions to darkened the background as the viewer's eye tend to see the brightest part of the image. I found a good reading regarding this subject. https://www.adorama.com/alc/photo-composition-and-contrast-leading-the-eye-to-your-subject/   Posted: 03/24/2023 01:15:28
