Brown Pelican by Julie Pastor

February 2021 - Brown Pelican

About the Image(s)

This was taken in South Louisiana from a boat on a foggy morning. The brown Pelican filled the frame. I adjusted the contrast, took it into PS and using layer mask and curves adjustments I darkened and brightened the image. I sharpened eye area. I wish that I had captured the entire reflection. Nikon D500 lens 200-500 ISO 1600 200mm. F/5.6. 1/1600 sec shutter speed.

So many shades of brown and grey! The background is soft and not distracting. Love this image.   Posted: 02/09/2021 12:23:01

Very nice. Was the wings cropped out by mistake?   Posted: 02/12/2021 14:35:24

Yes, it must have happened when I sized it down for this DD. I am attempting to resend it. Thanks for the heads-up.

I really like this photograph, nice colors, great focus and a fine subject. I would also like to see the whole wing and change the angle of the photo so the bird does not appear to be going up hill.   Posted: 02/17/2021 15:58:04

I just posted it to a comment. The Pelican was swimming away from me. I will attempt to reangle and see what that looks like. Thanks for sharing.
