March 2020 - Rooster With Yellow Wattle

About the Image(s)

Recently spent some time in Fair Oaks, Ca. One of the interesting things about Fair Oaks is that chickens roam the streets of a section of the city. I thought it might be fun to take pictures of these chickens in places where one does not usually see chickens. I set my IOS at 200 and went into town early in the morning. I got 14 to 20 decent shots. The one I am submitting this month is a White Minorca rooster portrait. I used a Nikon D7100 with a zoom lens. My shutter speed was 1/200 with an f stop of 7.5. I used the lens at 78 mm. Then I did some cropping and used the clone stamp to take out some grass on the right side.

Very nice, you might consider some slight shadow recovery around the eye and face area to draw the viewer's attention to that area, and some highlight recovery on the back of the bird. I like the diagonal shadows in the background, which contrast with the feathers nicely.   Posted: 03/11/2020 11:31:32

The shadows on the ground create a nice background for this guy! He is perfectly in focus. I like him! My eyes would like to see a little less glare on his back. Can that brightness be softened?   Posted: 03/13/2020 20:30:18

I love the expression on his face! So intense! I find the green horizontal line in the background a tad distracting, but I don't think it takes away from the overall photo.   Posted: 03/20/2020 15:14:27

Great picture of the chicken. I wish that the eye area was a bit brighter. I think that the background is nice, looks like it could be a texture.   Posted: 03/21/2020 23:05:46
