Dippers Diner by Mike Whelan

August 2019 - Dippers Diner

About the Image(s)

Please find my photo for August. It was taken using a Canon 100-400 L lens, F8 at 1/320 and a focal length of 349mm. I was returning from a hide where I had not photographed anything and was feeling a little disappointed. When I spotted this Dipper as I was crossing a bridge over a stream it was bobbing around for a good ten minutes and it presented a fantastic photo opportunity, which made the morning worthwhile.

Cute little photo with nice focus on eye and bug. I like the detail and the depth of color in the feathers. Personal preference- I might trim some off the bottom. Lighting in the photo is a very unusual color which I like.
Overall- very nice!!   Posted: 08/09/2019 12:20:52

I love the colors. You were very lucky to get the bird with the bug in its mouth.Well done.   Posted: 08/11/2019 09:12:02

Beautiful little bird! Great focus, sharp details, the white is very white! Love the details I can see on the feet!

My mind struggles with the placement of the bird - lower in the photo (or bottom being cropped more) would be easier for me to see.   Posted: 08/11/2019 11:23:48

Great photo. I like the coloring and the detail of the bird and it's meal in it's mouth.   Posted: 08/14/2019 09:32:04

Very nice shot. I like the multiple items in it's beak. Everything is sharp and well exposed.   Posted: 08/18/2019 09:49:17

How fortunate to have the bird in your sights for so long. I can imagine the number of shots you took and the one you submitted is excellent. One tiny nit-picker! I would crop a small amount off the bottom or darken the bright spot in the lower LH corner.   Posted: 08/24/2019 14:05:47
