Algonquin Heritage Tree by Margaret Frazer

December 2019 - Algonquin Heritage Tree

About the Image(s)

This is an image I took in early fall ups near Algonquin park. This Heritage Tree is treasured by the community on the Muskoka River. It was shot at ISO 100 F9 with a 17-40 mm lens on a Canon Mark 4.

Hi Margaret, this is an Icelandic black-headed gull. I'm not sure if it is a raw or jpeg origin, but there are grains caused probably by high ISO rate. This could be eliminated with wider aperture. And -as you also mentioned- too much empty space in photo ie should be cropped.   Posted: 12/06/2019 01:17:34

Thanks Ata. I really appreciate the feedback.   Posted: 12/10/2019 07:43:53

If you are working on the concept of negative space, then this works quite nicely. Even better if you moved it up just a little bit from the bottom.

Everything doesn't have to be cropped tight.

Nice shot.   Posted: 12/09/2019 16:10:14

Thanks Larry
I agree it could be a bit higher .   Posted: 12/10/2019 07:45:01

Margaret I noticed that this is the same image you submitted in November but since you received only one comment we shall let it pass this time. (I am working on filling this group with some active members) Since our BG is dark I would definitely opt for a border around this image. You have good detail in the feathers but perhaps the shadow could be a little brighter.   Posted: 12/10/2019 06:01:42

Thanks Barbara. I will start making a list of images I submit so it doesn't happen again. I appreciate the comment to keep me on my toes :)   Posted: 12/10/2019 07:46:31

Margaret, I really like the bright color of the tree against the green of the other trees. I also think you did a good job with the composition, getting the tree overhanging the stream.   Posted: 12/16/2019 08:24:54
