From my experience you have done an excellent job in capture - using the 16mm focal length to get as much exposure as possible without star trails. I feel that the colors you have created for this image - the red fence the blue night sky and the white lighthouse work in harmony - somewhat "patriotic."

To my eye the DoF with an f/2.8 stop has left the fence in the foreground slightly out of focus. In this case I believe this is a very minor distraction to the image. Perhaps you could have shot the same scene focused on the fence and layer stacked to obtain a crisper foreground.

Very Nice!   Posted: 05/03/2020 07:51:37

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, we go their late and there were several people around. I will look at doing this the next time. Love Patriotic.   Posted: 05/08/2020 20:13:45

The sky, lighthouse, small house all look fantastic! I agree with Gary about the fenceline. Why did you choose to put some texture and lighting into the foreground instead of silhouting it? Nice capture!   Posted: 05/04/2020 18:45:49

When I shot this, it was pitch black and someone turned on their red light to adjust their camera. that is how the fence got lit up. Thank you.   Posted: 05/08/2020 20:15:43

This is a terrific image. The lighthouse and starry sky are beautiful. I agree with the others that the fence is a bit of a distraction. It might look good if the fence color saturation was reduced to make it less of a part of the shot.   Posted: 05/06/2020 10:18:24

I think this is a great image. The sky is beautiful and to my eye you have rendered it very well. I guess I'm on the fence regarding the fence, it doesn't bother me as it is but if it were subdued I think that too would be fine.   Posted: 05/08/2020 15:30:35

I like how you put being on the fence about the fence. Thank you for your comment.   Posted: 05/08/2020 20:20:02

Gary, is there anything more exhilarating than to photograph the core of the Milky Way? I like the way you used the lighthouse as a compositional element and point of reference. Post processing nicely brought out the Milky Way without adding noise. The fence is also well used as a leading line; however, for my eye, the red may be slightly too strong and too saturated.   Posted: 05/09/2020 09:29:52

Gary, pigeon point is one of my favorite places to shoot the Milky Way and I have shot several time lapses there. It is very frustrating though since it is very crowded and you do get a lot of red light from cars and people shining light not the lighthouse which is not needed. My personal preference wold be to try and eliminate the red since to me it is distracting from the Milky Way. Here is one of my compositions from the same place that I posted last year in this group:   Posted: 05/14/2020 17:52:15
