About the Image(s)

On February 4th - before quarantines - I went to Ft. Myers Beach to shoot pictures of the pier and walk streets in the late afternoon. After much disappointment I bought a waster at a local stand and headed back to the transit bus pickup point. I glanced off to my right and saw this "canal" leading to the back harbor where the fishing boats come in.

This is a three shot HDR processed in "Balanced" preset in HDR Efex Pro 2. I made some minor adjustments including cropping in LR to remove the cars in the right foreground.

This could be on a travel or real estate brochure! Love how the arched bridge in the background connects the canal sides and adds DOF. The wispy clouds are to die for. To my eye the oly thing I would do is to make the shadows darker on the left for more light-dark contrast in the image. Nicely done.   Posted: 05/04/2020 18:18:18

I think this is a beautiful image, you have really brought it to life in post processing. I like the colors and love the clouds. The canal is a strong leading line that really brings me into the image. To my eye the red object on the right edge is a little distracting. I'm glad you were able to salvage the day with this great image.   Posted: 05/05/2020 16:58:00

This image captures so well the tropical culture of Florida. Good use of the canal as leading line and cropping out the car on the right certainly improved the image. Emphasis on the tropical pastel colors adds much to this scene. The placid water in the foreground is lovely, too bad the wind did not allow this effect to extend deeper down the canal.   Posted: 05/08/2020 17:52:51

I like how you opened up the shadows to bring out the detail and reflections. i like how you used saturation to bring out the colors to lead your eye down the canal. I like the wispy clouds, they add to the overall photo. Very nice shot.   Posted: 05/08/2020 20:26:19

Lovely image Gary and I like all the editing choices you have made with cropping, opening up shadows and color saturation. Minor suggestion for next time, wish you had used a longer exposure to slow down the water movement and get better reflections.   Posted: 05/14/2020 17:28:23
