About the Image(s)

An old stone foundation still holds a weathered shed on top of it and a winter's snow provides a great contrast with the building. It's been a while since this structure was used for anything except providing shelter for an assortment of wild creatures. We just had a fresh snow, so I ventured out on the back roads and went up a dead-end road I had passed numerous times only to find this shed. It was set about 10 yards back from the road. Though it was about 10 a.m., the low sun put some nice shadows down from the trees. Buildings such as this are quickly disappearing from Wisconsin’s rural landscape because no one is taking care of them. ISO 100, f/11, 1/50 second, aperture priority, pattern metering, 18 mm length, flash mode without flash. I processed mostly in TopazStudio with its presets and then refined in Lightroom.

Trey, for me this picture brings back many memories of growing up in rural western PA. I feel that the information you provided helps to tell the story of a way of life gone by. From my experience you have done an excellent job in capture of creating a strong foreground for the main subject - the barn - and the trees and sky lead my eye to that point. I believe that the DoF, contrast and exposure are right on. In my opinion the post-processing work has done a great job of bringing out the stone and left face of the barn. In my VM I increased the contrast and decreased the brightness of the right side just a but to give it more definition. I may have gone just a bit too dark on the brightness. Good Job!   Posted: 03/03/2020 08:27:21

Hi Trey, I think you did a fine job in post processing, to me the image really comes alive. I like the composition and the angle of view, it feels to me like I have just come upon the cabin in the woods. I think trees in the foreground add a lot of perspective.   Posted: 03/03/2020 10:31:27

I really like this composition. I like the stone foundation of the shed and as Lou mentioned having the trees surrounding the shed make this a much more interesting image. I think that you did a very good job in post.   Posted: 03/05/2020 09:36:56
