About the Image(s)

This is a complex picture. It was taken last July from the cliff-side trail above Vernazza, Italy. I used a three-shot sequence to create an HDR in DxO using the "Balanced." If you look closely you can see that significant work was done in PS to remove foreground greenery on the lower right side to reframe the picture. Each color of building in town was selectively colorized using DxO Color Efex Pro 4. My intent was to create an image that appeared as a watercolor. MY work has been rewarded with Acceptances and an Honorable Mention in PSA exhibitions.

Lovely shot and processing.
This is one of the famous "Cinque Terre" ("Five Lands") towns. My wife's Italian cousin has suggested we go there with her when we next visit. We would certainly like to, and this great image adds encouragement. Thanks.
I would wryly observe that nearly everyone has been there when they have visited their doctors' offices and seen prints on the walls of scenes from Cinque Terre or Santorini.   Posted: 03/01/2020 19:44:39

I really like this image, I like the composition and how you have cropped the image. I think the way you handled it in post processing is great, I really like the colors in the finished image.   Posted: 03/03/2020 09:42:04

Gary, it is easy to see why this image has been honored. Even without post production touches, it is a thoughtfully composed photograph. Removing the foliage in the foreground created a line into the image. The brightly colored umbrellas serve as central focal point holding this complex scene together. This is an example of visual art, not merely a photograph.   Posted: 03/04/2020 09:34:26

This is a beautiful image and does look like a watercolor. I have visited Cinque Terre before and this makes me want to go back. You've done a great job of capturing the scenic beauty of the area.   Posted: 03/05/2020 09:32:18

A good choice to go with watercolor and that choice has made it unique! Great circular motion within the image. Nice crop at the top. Water coloration also improved. There's also another image within this image with the cement walkway leading to the umbrella area. Definitely a wall hanger and congrats with the HM in PSA exhibitions!   Posted: 03/05/2020 10:21:26

In my opinion all the work you put into this image has paid off. I think removing some of the foliage resulted in the remaining green framing the scene nicely. I believe the water color treatment works well here. To me this is truly artistic.   Posted: 03/14/2020 12:19:27

Love the image Gary and also how you have done the post production. I have been here and feel that your take amplifies the vibrance of the town and makes it look like a cover of a magazine or book.   Posted: 03/29/2020 23:15:53
