About the Image(s)

This was taken on the Marne-Rhine Canal in Eastern France. Camera Canon 6D, Tamron 28-300 at 106mm, ISO 100 at 1/200 sec at f 7.1.

The sky was flat and overcast but had some color to it, so I did what I could to enhance it in Lightroom. I also lightened the shadows.

Definitely the feel of Old World here. Love the fishermen at left and the runner along the leading line of the image. Sharpness is good. To my eye, there is too much river at right and I would crop it at the telephone pole at the 1/3 grid mark. Nicely processed image!   Posted: 01/01/2020 09:48:44

To my eye you have done a very good job with the leading lines in this image. Surprisingly, studies have shown that the "westerners" eye prefers an image where the eye is led from left to right in the image - just what you have done. In my opinion the depth of field and the exposure were well done in capture. I believe that the post-processing work has enhanced the colors, making it a richer image. Per Trey's comment, I feel that you could crop it just inside the tree on the right, leaving the vertical dimension as it is.

Good Job.   Posted: 01/05/2020 08:38:13

Thanks for the comments Gary. I like your idea for cropping, I thought Trey's suggestion might take away the look of the canal and make the water look more like a small lake.   Posted: 01/05/2020 09:28:59

Lou, my background is news journalism so I have a tendency to crop to the action of the shot. My cross, you shouldn't have to bear it haha!   Posted: 01/06/2020 09:33:14

I appreciate your comments, Trey. I struggle with photography being so subjective.   Posted: 01/06/2020 10:20:35

Great image Lou. This image gives the viewer the feel of looking through a window at the river down below. I would also crop to the left of the tree on the right.   Posted: 01/05/2020 15:44:41

Nice shot Lou. I am with Trey and think cropping to the pole might enhance the image more and allow us to appreciate the serenity of the village. The water edge would form almost a C and draw our eyes to the fishermen. You could also try enhancing the reflections a bit more.   Posted: 01/08/2020 20:33:09

I like the mood this image induces. Bringing out the colors adds to the feel of it being in rural France. I agree with some of the cropping suggestions, but alternatively you might also mull on deleting the pole and the brightly colored runner (and his reflection).   Posted: 01/19/2020 20:26:43
