About the Image(s)

This is a small fishing pier in the town of Astoria,OR.I went there as a tourist and was walking the river trail when I came by this point. The fishing pier and birds made the view attracting.

Device: Nikon D750.
Details: 1/400 sec. f/9 ISO 100 @ 70mm. I have adjusted the basics and tones in Lightroom and have used a gradient filter to lighten up the pier.

You did a nice job bringing out the colors and I like the circular rotation in the image that the gulls provide int he sky. I like the crop at left and the reflection of the posts at left that also lead the eye to the oats at right. For my eye, I would crop off the sandy area at left and just have water as foreground.   Posted: 08/04/2019 09:13:42

Such a peaceful harbor scene. The birds gliding by add to the grace of the image. Good work bringing out colors in the sky and lightening the boats. Perhaps even more attention might be drawn to the birds and boats if the sand and mud at the bottom of the image was cropped out. But it is your call.   Posted: 08/04/2019 16:28:51

Very nice Sumit. I really like the simple nature of this image. You have done a good job with the subtle colors. It is not oversaturated.   Posted: 08/05/2019 09:19:38

I think that technically you have captured the shot well - it is Sharp, all parts are in Focus and the Colors appear to me to be natural. I feel that the highlights and shadows are correct.

Sumit, it appears to me that there is no fixation point for the viewer's eye to go to. I believe that the pier - the topic of the image - needs somehow to occupy a larger portion of the frame. Perhaps in Finishing you could recrop to bring greater attention to the pier.   Posted: 08/06/2019 06:38:02

I agree with Gary's comments. Technically this is a very nice image. I think that there are two images here, the pier on the left and the boats on the right. Perhaps you could have focused on one or the other. I don't know what the scene looked like but if possible you might have turned your camera to the left and focused on the pier, in my mind I see the pier as being quite interesting.   Posted: 08/07/2019 17:38:24

Sumit, since it is a very simple frame and does not have a focal point of interest, maybe try this next time with a long exposure. That would make the water glassy and reflect more and get you more reflections maybe?   Posted: 08/30/2019 17:22:16
