OK - I'm jealous - you have a fantastic model! Love the B&W; much more impactful that the original. Great detail in her cheeks/hands. How was this lit? The highlights/shadows in her hair are perfect!   Posted: 08/04/2020 09:15:36

What a nice image. I am usually partial to B&W, but this is one instance when I like the color better. The was the red hair places of to the red dress is striking. Note: my wife has auburn red hair, so I may be partial. Never the less, the image has impact.   Posted: 08/04/2020 14:46:38

Indeed, Jo, you surely have the perfect model!

In any case, another fine example of your Portrait skills and post-production workflow to this final BW presentation.

Lovely!   Posted: 08/04/2020 21:52:13

Hi all. Thank you for your lovely comments. It was taken against a black backdrop and I was using a small soft box not directly on her but kinda bounced off a white wall. Conversion would have been in camera raw. I love the colour pic but changed it to black and white for my Guild of photographers qualified panel. I got the dress in a second hand shop and it was a bit small for her but I had to use it!   Posted: 08/05/2020 01:19:14

Excellent image! Nice detail and sharpness throughout. Also excellent lighting! This is a photo that will work well in both color and black and white! I am starting to understand how remarkable your portrait images are...I am taking a photography class where the current section involves photographing people, including portraits. This is not my strong point, but I am learning. Well done!   Posted: 08/05/2020 08:21:43

Thank you. To me a good portrait shows impact. This can be because of the impact of the image or because it shows connection between model and author. Some might argue that this portrait has no connection because you can't see the models eyes. But I think it gives it more impact.   Posted: 08/05/2020 08:47:50

I agree, the impact is very evident in this image! I have a similar image of my granddaughter that I will be submitting to my instructor...black and white with her (3 years old) looking down at a doughnut she is eating   Posted: 08/05/2020 09:23:38

A lovely portrait, Jo, and really elevated by your choice of pose and that wonderful dress, and of course your beautiful daughter with her amazing hair! I like both color and B&W. Thank you for explaining your methods.   Posted: 08/05/2020 21:36:52
