About the Image(s)

1. The Main image was taken last summer. It was a 73 second exposure at F/18. I decided to go for a dreamy look so I lowered both the clarity and texture in lightroom and I increased the luminance of my greens. (I have included the original for comparison).

2. The ICM (image) I was practicing with, I have not done much with, other than add contrast. It is an early spring photo

Hi Graham! Yes, an interesting modification to make the scene "dreamy" without using an alternative "layer" or other algorithms found on an array of software programs.

However, for me, I think I like the Original aesthetic. It appears already soft, likely the result of a 73sec exposure, indeed. From this point, you could possible convert to BW which may increase the "dreamy" appeal you are after - maybe not.

In any case, the color original reflects a more authentic, and in my opinion, the better composition.

The Abstract is very cool! I love the colors!! and talk about dreamy....well done!   Posted: 07/02/2020 11:02:07

I think I understand what you were going for. If so, well done. But, the bright area at the bottom right of the image catches my eyes first, and I have to work to break free to see the rest of the image. Easy fix in LR or PS.   Posted: 07/02/2020 12:05:46

Hi Graham! Beautiful scene - I'm amazed that there is such good clarity with a 73 second exposure. I have to agree with Lance about my preference for the original. I think it has a dreamy, misty look to it already and perhaps didn't really need extensive post processing. The bright area in the foreground would still need to be toned down, but the reflections and the clarity of the water are quite good in the original.   Posted: 07/02/2020 12:43:46

Great scene . . . The long exposure works and contributes to that dreamy look. I'm assuming it was daytime - did you need an ND filter to get to the 73 sec exposure? Or was f18 enough?

I agree with the others - that toning done the bright spot in front would help - perhaps even slightly brightening the wood in the water; to draw more attention to that.

So many textures (rocks, water, wood, foliage).

Personally - I find the green in the edits image a bit over-saturated; and imagine the true scene looking more like the original. The edits do make the greenery pop more. . . as someone told me "add salt to taste" . . . a matter of personal preference.   Posted: 07/03/2020 06:40:25

Beautiful scenery...nice composition with the river as a leading line taking my eyes through the photo. The dreamy look adds to the artistic flair of this image! I agree with the others in toning down the bright spot. However, to me this is minor as this is an excellent photo.   Posted: 07/13/2020 09:34:43
