Grasshopper by Ruth Holt

October 2019 - Grasshopper

About the Image(s)

Howdy,
Hope you are ready for fall weather.
I'm still working on my "Living Yard Art" series. I captured a Stinging Scorpion, but pitched him over the fence into my neighbor's hay bale before I thought about taking a picture of it. This one is "Grasshopper". This was taken 10-1-2019. Opened up in Snapseed. Looks>accentuate + smooth; Tools> crop, rotate, drama (1), HDR, glamour glow, healing brush . Sent to APS-CS6 for resizing , a little use of the cone tool, and frame.

Loving our cooler temps. Yikes, a scorpion?! You have critters running everywhere out there! I love this lizard, and your edits are great. You really worked to bring out fantastic details and textures in its skin. If you make changes, I'd only reduce the highlights around the lizard. I'm curious: what kind of lizard? Were you shooting from above or was it in front of you going up a rock or wall? Nice record shot!   Posted: 10/05/2019 18:20:07

Don't know the name of the type of lizard, but it's not Grasshopper as I mistakenly labeled it. He was located in the bottom of a flower pot which I carried (the pot) out into the sunshine....   Posted: 10/12/2019 16:37:07

You are truly an expert in Snapseed. I'm envious.   Posted: 10/05/2019 18:38:56

Lucky you going into Fall. Downunder in Queensland we are experiencing extreme summer conditions and Spring has just begun! Crazy weather. But back to your image and another record of the critters in your backyard. It a lovely image, nice and sharp and well composed. Perfect background for the lizard and appropriate earthy tones. But I am puzzled by "grasshopper". Is it a grasshopper lizard or is that a pet name you have given it?   Posted: 10/08/2019 01:42:05

Mistake in naming the image; next month, you might see the grasshopper....   Posted: 10/12/2019 16:38:58

The amount of critters in your yard continues to amaze me. I like the placement of the lizard, off center but looking into the empty space on the left helps balance it for me. I like your edits as well. I have had to go back many times and look at the email to make sure the title is correct.   Posted: 10/09/2019 05:20:56

Great shot! I love the curve of the lizard with the head tilted. I wish we could see the end of his tail, but you were lucky to get this much of it!   Posted: 10/17/2019 13:26:47

I am just as glad not to see a scorpion, anyway, Ruth. I like the s-curve of your lizard and the starry way its claws are splayed out. It would be nice if you could clone out some of the leafy stuff at the bottom to just show the lizard on the sand.   Posted: 10/31/2019 22:56:26
